This is the original book cover. It has a picture of a pig's head on a stick. You can see that there is blood coming out of the pigs mouth. I chose this picture because it really shows that the boys were violent savages. This picture does not only represent a pig's head on a stick, but it also has a hidden message. This head represents how the boys turned into savages. It shows that Jack's tribe was very violent and that they would go through anything to be better than Ralph. Once they killed the pig, they placed its head on a stick as an offer to the beast that was just in their imagination.
This visual provides a different view of the information described in the text. In the text it tells you that the boys were violent and that they had become Jack's "minions". It also tells you how Jack had led them to savagery. The picture shows that the boys went to extreme difficulties to hunt food and the beast. They became savages and also went on to kill two of the boys. When they thought that the beast, which in fact was just the evil inside of them, was going to hunt them down, hey made a offering to the beast by putting a pig's head on a stick.
